India’s skipper Rohit Sharma has once again found himself on the losing side—at least when it comes to the toss. As India faced New Zealand in their final group-stage match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Rohit’s toss-losing streak continued.
This marked India’s 13th consecutive toss loss in ODI cricket, a bizarre and unprecedented streak. The last time an Indian captain won an ODI toss was way back in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

A Staggering Toss Record
Out of these 13 toss defeats, Rohit Sharma has personally lost 10, while KL Rahul lost three during India’s tour of South Africa in December 2023.
In the previous high-voltage clash against Pakistan, Rohit’s toss-losing streak had already set a world record when he lost to Mohammad Rizwan. Now, with the latest loss to New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner, India’s unwanted tally has extended further.
Despite the toss setbacks, Team India has been dominant, securing convincing wins over Bangladesh and Pakistan in the tournament so far. And even though Rohit lost the toss to Santner, he still got what he wanted—batting first.
Is Rohit Sharma Really Cursed?
Rohit’s unbelievable streak has left fans speculating if it’s just bad luck or something more.
- “That’s an insane streak! 13 consecutive lost tosses in ODIs is almost unbelievable—what are the odds of that happening?” one fan wrote.
- “Tosses are purely based on luck, but this kind of streak definitely feels like a curse!” another user added.
A fan even asked AI how rare this scenario is, and the answer was staggering:
💡 Probability of losing 13 straight coin tosses = 0.5^13 = 0.000122 (or 0.0122%)
📌 In simpler terms: About a 1 in 8,192 chance!
While losing the toss isn’t the biggest factor in winning matches, it does play a vital role—especially in conditions where dew, pitch behaviour, and weather can impact the game.
With India still performing strongly despite this bizarre trend, the big question remains—can Rohit finally break the streak, or will the “curse” continue?
