Imad Wasim Announces International Retirement for the Second Time in 379 Days

Star Pakistani all-rounder Imad Wasim has announced his retirement from international cricket for the second time in just over a year. The 35-year-old shared the news on social media on Friday, December 13, thanking fans and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their support during his career.

Imad first retired in November 2023, citing limited opportunities. However, he reversed his decision ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, where he represented Pakistan but struggled to deliver impactful performances.

Imad’s Farewell Message

Imad confirmed his decision via Twitter, reflecting on his journey and expressing gratitude to fans.

“After much thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from international cricket. Representing Pakistan on the world stage has been the greatest honor of my life. While this chapter comes to an end, I look forward to continuing my journey in cricket through domestic and franchise cricket. Thank you for everything. Pakistan.”

Imad revealed that his final match for Pakistan was against Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Imad Wasim’s Career Highlights

  • Debut: 2015
  • Matches: 55 ODIs and T20Is
  • Runs: 1,540 (including six half-centuries)
  • Wickets: 117 (with two five-wicket hauls and one four-wicket haul)

Known for his left-arm spin and lower-order batting heroics, Imad was a key player in both white-ball formats. His best performances often came in the powerplay with the ball and in pressure situations with the bat.

Post-Retirement Plans

Imad confirmed that he will continue playing in domestic and franchise leagues, including the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Imad’s retirement marks the end of an international career filled with memorable moments, and fans will look forward to seeing his skills on display in leagues around the world.
