Team India has continued to assert dominance in the white-ball formats by maintaining their No. 1 ranking in both ODIs and T20Is in the latest ICC annual men’s team rankings released on Monday. However, the team has slipped one position in the Test rankings, now sitting at fourth, while reigning World Test Championship holders Australia retain the top spot.
White-Ball Supremacy for India
In the updated ODI rankings, India strengthened their grip at the top with a rating increase from 122 to 124. This leap comes on the back of their title-winning performance in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. New Zealand, runners-up in the tournament, climbed to second, displacing Australia to third.
Sri Lanka enjoyed a five-point gain and surged to fourth after impressive home series wins over India and Australia. Pakistan now sit fifth, gaining just one point, while South Africa slipped to sixth after a four-point loss. Afghanistan’s consistent performances earned them a jump to seventh, pushing England – the 2019 World Cup winners – down to eighth. The West Indies moved up to ninth, while Bangladesh fell to the 10th position.
India Continue to Boss T20Is
India, the reigning T20 World Champions, continue to lead the global T20I rankings. Although their lead over second-placed Australia narrowed slightly (from 10 to 9 points), India’s consistency in the shortest format has kept them on top.
England, champions in 2022, hold the third position, followed by New Zealand, West Indies, and South Africa. Sri Lanka moved up to seventh after overtaking Pakistan, who dropped to eighth. Bangladesh and Afghanistan complete the top ten.
This year’s annual update also features a record 100 teams in the T20I rankings for the first time, recognizing teams that have played at least eight matches over the past three years.

Australia Stay Supreme in Tests
Australia’s reign in Test cricket remains unshaken. Despite a two-point dip in their rating, they continue to lead with 126 points. England, thanks to strong performances over the past year, have risen to second place with 113 points, overtaking South Africa (111) and India (105).
India, who slipped from third to fourth, were unable to gain ground despite their solid home performances. The rest of the top 10 features New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.
Ireland and Afghanistan remain unranked in the Test standings due to not meeting the minimum Test match criteria—Ireland needs one more match, and Afghanistan three—to become eligible for rankings.
Summary Table: ICC Team Rankings (May 2025 Update)

With the new ICC World Test Championship cycle starting in June 2025, and several white-ball assignments on the horizon, all eyes will be on whether India can maintain their dominance in limited-overs cricket and bounce back in Tests.
