Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) currently find themselves in a difficult spot in the IPL 2025 season, sitting at 9th place in the points table with just two wins from their first eight matches. However, their star wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen remains hopeful that the team can still make it to the playoffs.
Klaasen, who was retained by the franchise for a hefty ₹23 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, has been a consistent performer with the bat this season. The 33-year-old South African leads SRH’s scoring charts and has been a lone bright spark in what has otherwise been a disappointing campaign so far.
In a video shared by official broadcaster Star Sports on X (formerly Twitter), Klaasen expressed confidence in the team’s strategy and direction.
“We want to play a certain brand, and we are sticking to that brand of cricket. We do understand that we might have games where it doesn’t go according to plan, but we know the amount of games we need to win to get into the playoffs,” Klaasen said.
“We’re happy with where we are now. Like I said, it’s just about fine-tuning it a little bit and making sure that we can be a little bit more consistent,” he added.

Crucial Match Ahead Against CSK
SRH’s next match is a do-or-die clash against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday, April 25. The high-stakes encounter will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, a venue where CSK boasts an enviable record.
With only six games remaining in their league stage, SRH must win at least five of those to have any realistic shot at a playoff berth. A loss to CSK would leave them with a maximum of 14 points, which, given this year’s stiff competition, might not be enough to break into the top four.

Klaasen’s Impact and Leadership
Klaasen has not only delivered runs under pressure but has also emerged as a leader within the side, guiding young Indian talent and sharing key insights in pressure moments. His belief in the team’s “brand of cricket” suggests a commitment to an aggressive yet calculated approach — something SRH has tried to implement under new skipper Pat Cummins.
Despite the odds, Klaasen’s optimism provides a glimmer of hope for the Orange Army. With matches still left and momentum still up for grabs, SRH’s fate is not entirely sealed — but every game from here on is virtually a final.
