Hasan Nawaz - Pakistan

Hasan Nawaz Sets Unwanted Record in New Zealand T20I Series

Pakistan’s young opener Hasan Nawaz had a rollercoaster debut series in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, culminating in an unwanted record during the final match at Sky Stadium, Wellington.

The 22-year-old began his international career on a rough note, registering ducks in his first two matches. This made him only the sixth batter in T20I history and the second Pakistani to achieve the unfortunate feat.

From Record-Breaking Century to More Ducks

In an incredible turnaround, Nawaz smashed a 44-ball century in the third T20I, becoming the fastest Pakistani batter to score a T20I hundred. His explosive knock powered Pakistan to a nine-wicket victory and briefly silenced his critics.

However, his inconsistency returned, as he scored just one run in the fourth T20I, followed by another three-ball duck in the final game.

Unwanted Record for Most Ducks by a Pakistani Opener in a T20I Series

With his third duck in the series, Nawaz now holds the record for the most ducks by a Pakistani opener in a T20I series, surpassing some experienced names.

Most Ducks by a Pakistani Opener in a T20I Series:

🥶 3 – Hasan Nawaz (5 innings)
🥶 2 – Shahzaib Hasan (2 innings)
🥶 2 – Mohammad Hafeez (3 innings)
🥶 2 – Mohammad Rizwan (4 innings)

Pakistan’s Opening Woes Continue

Nawaz’s highs and lows in his debut series highlight Pakistan’s ongoing struggles at the top of the order. With the T20 World Cup approaching, the selectors will need to decide whether to persist with the talented youngster or look for a more consistent opening partner for Babar Azam.
