Amid rising military tensions between India and Pakistan, Indian cricket’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has extended heartfelt gratitude to the Indian armed forces. With the Indian Premier League 2025 suspended indefinitely, the entire nation—including the sporting fraternity—has turned its focus to those ensuring national security during these uncertain times.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Bumrah wrote:
“Grateful to our armed forces for their courage and bravery. We salute them and remain forever in their debt for everything that they do to keep us safe.”
Bumrah’s post quickly went viral, garnering praise from fans and fellow cricketers. The 30-year-old joins a growing list of Indian sporting icons who have come forward to express their support for the country’s defence personnel. Rohit Sharma, India’s ODI skipper, had earlier shared a similar message, thanking the soldiers for their unwavering commitment during this tense period.
IPL 2025 Suspension After Blackouts and Security Alarms
The indefinite suspension of IPL 2025 came in the wake of a security scare in Dharamsala, where the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals had to be abandoned. A state-enforced blackout triggered by air-raid alarms saw widespread power outages across several districts in Punjab and Chandigarh, including Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Mohali, and the Union Territory capital.
With reports of explosion-like sounds near the Jammu region, the match could not continue, and both teams were evacuated from the venue. The Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings squads are currently being transported to New Delhi by road under tight security arrangements.
Meanwhile, Friday’s scheduled match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Lucknow has also been suspended indefinitely.
Growing Anxiety Among Foreign Players
According to league sources, the military standoff has sparked considerable concern among overseas players. A total of 62 international cricketers were signed by the 10 franchises in last year’s IPL mega-auction. Many of them are now preparing to fly back to their respective countries as a precautionary measure.
With the situation rapidly evolving, franchise sources suggest that most foreign players are seeking early exits, especially after the series of alarming developments across the border.

Franchises Back the BCCI Decision
Despite the emotional and financial toll, several IPL franchises have backed the BCCI’s decision to suspend the tournament. Most teams have released public statements standing in solidarity with the nation and prioritizing player and public safety above all.
A senior official from a leading franchise stated:
“There’s no doubt cricket is important, but not more than our nation’s safety. We fully support the suspension and will await further directions from the BCCI.”
When Will IPL 2025 Resume?
As of now, there is no official update on when IPL 2025 will resume. The BCCI is reportedly evaluating multiple windows, including late May, August, and September, depending on how the geopolitical situation unfolds.
Until then, Jasprit Bumrah’s words echo the sentiments of a grateful nation:
“Forever in their debt.”
