Delhi Capitals End 14-Year (5438 Days) Drought in Chennai with Commanding Win Over CSK

Delhi Capitals (DC) broke a long-standing jinx at Chepauk, defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 25 runs in Match 17 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This victory marks DC’s first win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium after 5468 days — nearly 15 years. Their previous triumph at this venue came way back in 2010.

Batting first, KL Rahul led from the front in the absence of Faf du Plessis, who missed the match due to a niggle. Rahul played a composed knock of 77 off 51 balls, anchoring the innings and keeping the scoreboard ticking. He received good support from Abishek Porel (33), Axar Patel (21), Sameer Rizvi (20), and Tristan Stubbs (24 off 10 balls), helping DC post a competitive total of 183/6 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 184, CSK’s innings never really found momentum. The top order collapsed under disciplined bowling from the Capitals, leaving the home side reeling at 74/5. With the crowd growing restless, Vijay Shankar (69 off 54) and MS Dhoni (30 off 26) stitched together a slow but steady 84-run stand. However, the required run rate kept climbing, and their partnership lacked the explosive finish CSK desperately needed.

Delhi’s bowlers were clinical, executing their plans to perfection and not allowing any room for CSK’s heavy hitters to break free. The result was a comfortable 25-run win that not only ended DC’s losing streak at Chepauk but also propelled them to the top of the IPL 2025 points table with three wins in three games.

In contrast, CSK find themselves in a spot of bother, having lost three matches on the trot after starting the season with a win over Mumbai Indians. The Men in Yellow now face increasing pressure to bounce back, while Delhi Capitals continue to ride high on confidence and form.
