Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is currently leading his franchise in IPL 2025, but reports suggest that he is set to be excluded from the BCCI central contract list for the upcoming season. Despite his impressive IPL performances, Gaikwad’s lack of international appearances could cost him his spot in the prestigious list.

Why Will BCCI Remove Ruturaj Gaikwad From Central Contract?
According to a PTI report (as quoted by MyKhel), the 28-year-old may miss out on the central contract because he hasn’t played enough matches for India in the past year. The BCCI’s eligibility criteria for central contracts require players to have played at least:
✔ Three Tests OR
✔ Eight ODIs OR
✔ Ten T20Is in a calendar year.
Gaikwad, who has not met any of these criteria, is likely to be left out when the new contract list is announced.
Gaikwad’s International Record in 2024
📌 ODIs Played in 2024: ❌ None
📌 T20Is Played in 2024: ✅ 4 (vs Zimbabwe)
📌 Runs Scored: 133
📌 Batting Average: 66.50
📌 Strike Rate: 158.33
Despite his strong T20I stats, the limited number of games he played in 2024 has put his contract renewal in jeopardy.
BCCI’s Central Contract Reshuffle – Shreyas Iyer To Make a Comeback?
Gaikwad’s potential exclusion comes at a time when India’s central contract list is undergoing major changes. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Shreyas Iyer, who was dropped from the contract last year, is set to make a return after featuring in 11 ODIs this season.
However, the final decision rests with the BCCI selection committee, in consultation with the head coach and board secretary, meaning exceptions could be made.
