Vijay Patel Dies Of Heart Attack

Cricketer Dies of Suspected Heart Attack During Live Match

A tragic incident occurred at the Dr. Fraser Boys Ground in Jalna on Christmas Day (December 25) when Vijay Patel, a 45-year-old resident of Nala Sopara near Mumbai, collapsed and passed away during a cricket match. The unfortunate event unfolded while Patel was participating in a casual game as part of the Christmas Trophy tournament.

Player Collapses Mid-Match

Eyewitnesses reported that Vijay Patel was at the non-striker’s end, chatting with a fellow player before walking to the crease to face the next delivery. While walking, he suddenly experienced discomfort and collapsed on the field around 11:30 am.

Despite immediate attempts to revive him, including CPR administered by those present, Patel could not be saved. Authorities suspect he suffered a heart attack, but confirmation is pending the post-mortem report.

A police official told news agency PTI:

“He collapsed around 11:30 am while playing a match as part of the Christmas Trophy tournament here. It is suspected that he suffered a heart attack. Attempts to revive him through CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) failed. We are awaiting the post-mortem report.”

Recent Similar Incidents Raise Alarm

This tragic event follows a series of similar incidents in recent weeks:

  • Earlier in December, a 31-year-old tech professional succumbed to a heart attack while playing cricket at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan. Despite feeling chest pain, he continued playing before collapsing mid-run.
  • In November, professional cricketer Imran Patel suffered a fatal cardiac arrest during a league match at Pune’s Garware Stadium.

Increasing Concerns in Amateur and Professional Cricket

The spate of sudden cardiac incidents among cricketers, both professional and amateur, raises serious questions about health monitoring and preparedness during sporting events. Organizers and players alike are urged to prioritize fitness checks and emergency medical arrangements to mitigate such risks.

The cricketing community mourns the loss of Vijay Patel and others who have succumbed to such incidents, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in ensuring player safety on and off the field.
