BPL 2025 Match-Fixing Bombshell: Top Bangladesh Stars, Officials & Franchises Exposed – Investigation Reveals Shocking 36 Incidents!

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is facing its darkest hour yet as fresh revelations of match-fixing have surfaced, leaving fans in shock. The tournament, which has long battled credibility issues, has now been hit by a damning investigation exposing corruption at multiple levels.

According to a detailed report published by Prothom Alo, the BPL’s investigation committee flagged 36 suspicious incidents from the last season, the same edition where Fortune Barishal lifted the trophy in February 2025. These incidents include bizarre batting collapses, unusual bowling spells, and deliberate wides, all of which raised red flags.

Players and Officials Involved

The committee identified 10–12 players, including two current Bangladesh internationals — one pace bowler and one off-spinner. Several domestic cricketers were also accused of deliberately bowling poor deliveries to manipulate results.

The players have been divided into categories based on evidence:

  • Highly flagged (3–4 cricketers): Strong proof of fixing.
  • Medium flagged: Suspicious but not fully confirmed.
  • Low flagged: Minor but concerning actions.

Shockingly, one of the accused players was part of the Bangladesh squad that recently toured Sri Lanka. While many others are over 35 and nearing the end of their careers, their reputations now lie in tatters.

The scandal doesn’t stop with players — franchise officials from Durbar Rajshahi, Sylhet Strikers, and Dhaka Capitals admitted to being involved in fixing deals. Even worse, a BCB sub-committee member allegedly facilitated shady agreements between players and franchises.

Betting, Illegal Money & TV Channels

The report also uncovered that some television channels aired illegal betting advertisements, pocketing nearly 170–180 crore taka.

In one shocking case, a franchise was offered a staggering 40 billion taka to deliberately lose a match during the 2023–24 season. While it remains unclear whether the deal was accepted, the failure to report the approach itself breached BPL’s anti-corruption rules.

What’s Next?

The investigation panel has released only a preliminary report, warning the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) before the new season and the player draft. A final, more detailed report — with names, evidence, and recommendations — will be submitted next month.

To combat the crisis, the probe has urged reforms, including:

  • Strengthening BCB’s anti-corruption unit.
  • Enforcing stricter betting laws.
  • Granting BCB more legal authority.

The BCB has already moved quickly by appointing Alex Marshall, ex-ICC anti-corruption chief, to head its new anti-corruption unit.

The revelations have shaken Bangladesh cricket to its core. Fans, players, and stakeholders are now waiting anxiously to see who gets officially named in the final report — and what punishment lies ahead.
