In a significant development, the Bombay High Court has directed the Bandra family court to deliver a final verdict on the divorce petition of cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his wife Dhanashree Verma by March 20, 2025.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2020, has been living separately since June 2022. Chahal had filed for mutual divorce on February 5, 2025, but the case hit a roadblock due to pending alimony payments.

Alimony Dispute and Court Proceedings
As per their mutual consent agreement, Chahal had agreed to pay a one-time permanent alimony of ₹4.75 crore to Dhanashree. The couple also requested a waiver of the six-month statutory cooling-off period before finalizing the divorce.
However, the family court initially dismissed their plea due to incomplete alimony payment by Chahal. Now, a High Court bench led by Justice Madhav Jamdar has reversed the decision, instructing the Bandra court to fast-track the divorce proceedings.
Chahal Focused on IPL 2025 Amid Divorce Case
The High Court’s ruling comes as Chahal gears up for IPL 2025, where he will play for Punjab Kings (PBKS) after being acquired for a whopping ₹18 crore.
The leg-spinner is currently in PBKS’ training camp, preparing for the upcoming season. It remains uncertain whether he will be able to attend the court hearing on March 20 or if his legal representatives will appear on his behalf.
Chahal is IPL’s all-time highest wicket-taker with 205 scalps, having previously represented Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Mumbai Indians.
Chahal Set for County Stint Post IPL
Chahal has been out of India’s national team for some time, despite being part of the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad. He did not feature in any matches during the tournament, where India lifted the trophy under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.
Following IPL 2025, Chahal is scheduled to return to England for a county cricket stint with Northamptonshire. He played for them in the 2024 One-Day Cup, where he impressed with a five-wicket haul.
🗣 “I thoroughly enjoyed my time here last season, so I’m very happy to be coming back. There are some great people in that dressing room, and I can’t wait to be part of that again,” Chahal told ESPNcricinfo after confirming his return.
As the court gears up to deliver a final decision on March 20, all eyes will also be on Chahal’s performances in IPL 2025 and his county cricket assignment in England.
