The first Test against Australia is set to begin at the WACA, Perth, on November 22, and Harbhajan believes this match will be critical in determining India’s chances of winning the series.

India’s Preparation and Challenges
This Test series is not only a battle for pride but also pivotal for India’s hopes of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 Final. However, India enters the contest on the back of a demoralizing 3-0 series loss to New Zealand at home, which has raised questions about the team’s confidence.
Harbhajan pointed out that while the loss might dent the morale of players, the conditions in Australia will be vastly different and could work in India’s favor.

Batters Key to Success on Bouncy Australian Tracks
Speaking on Jatin Sapru’s YouTube channel, Harbhajan remained optimistic about India’s batters adapting to the bouncy pitches of Australia. He predicted a 50/50 chance of India retaining the trophy but acknowledged that Australia’s home advantage gives them a slight edge.
“It’s 50-50. I am not considering the cricket India played recently because the conditions were different. Even solid batters struggled at home. But Australia’s pitches are good, and I feel the Indian batters will come good,” Harbhajan said.
He singled out KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara as pivotal players, with Rahul’s ability to adapt under pressure and Pujara’s skill at wearing down bowlers being critical for India’s success.
Importance of a Strong Start in Perth
Harbhajan stressed that India must hit the ground running in the first Test at Perth. A loss in the opening game, he warned, could escalate pressure on the team and make the series even more challenging.
“If India starts well in Perth, then the team will give a solid fight in the series. If India doesn’t start well, then problems will escalate,” he said.
India’s Tour Schedule
Following the Perth Test, India will have a 10-day gap before the second Test in Adelaide, which will be a day-night affair with the pink ball. The series will then move to Brisbane, followed by the iconic Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, and conclude with the New Year’s Test in Sydney, starting January 3, 2025.
A Series Full of Potential
With the conditions in Australia posing a fresh challenge, and India looking to bounce back from their recent setbacks, the series promises to be a thrilling contest. As Harbhajan highlighted, the opening Test in Perth could set the tone for the entire series, making it a must-watch for cricket fans worldwide.
