BCCI Lodges Complaint Against Haris Rauf, Sahibzada Farhan Over On-Field Conduct – Report

The India–Pakistan cricket rivalry has always been more than just about runs and wickets—it’s about emotions, pride, and national sentiment. However, the latest chapter of this heated rivalry has extended beyond the boundary ropes, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has lodged an official complaint against Pakistan cricketers Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for their controversial on-field conduct during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash.

Rauf and Farhan Under Scrutiny

The Asia Cup has already been marred by controversies, and the India–Pakistan clash only intensified matters. Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf, while fielding on the boundary, allegedly made a provocative “6-0” gesture after dismissing Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson. The hand gesture, according to reports, was a reference to Pakistan’s unverified claim of shooting down six Indian fighter jets during Operation Sindoor, a sensitive issue that added political overtones to a cricket match.

The situation escalated further when fans in the stands began chanting “Kohli, Kohli” at Rauf. In response, the bowler reportedly mimicked a jet crashing gesture, further fueling outrage among Indian supporters and officials.

Meanwhile, opening batter Sahibzada Farhan courted controversy with his celebratory antics. After reaching a half-century, Farhan performed a gun celebration, which many perceived as insensitive and provocative given the heightened cross-border tensions.

BCCI Files Official Complaint

The BCCI has acted swiftly, taking a firm stand against what it describes as “conduct against the spirit of the game.” According to a Dainik Jagran report, the Indian cricket board has formally lodged a complaint with Asia Cup match referee Andy Pycroft, demanding strict disciplinary action.

A senior BCCI official was quoted as saying:

“Such on-field behaviour is against the spirit of the game. We have complained to Andy Pycroft about this and demand strict action. Not only has an official complaint been made, but videos of Rauf and Sahibzada have also been attached to the email.”

This move highlights India’s intent to ensure cricket remains free from political gestures and inflammatory celebrations that risk souring the competitive spirit of the sport.

Heated Exchanges on the Field

Beyond the gestures, tensions boiled over during play as well. Rauf was reportedly involved in a verbal spat with Indian stars Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, further darkening the atmosphere of what should have been a contest celebrated for its cricketing brilliance.

The Bigger Picture

India has already secured its place in the Asia Cup 2025 final, marking their 12th appearance in the tournament’s title clash, after defeating Bangladesh. Pakistan, on the other hand, will face Bangladesh in a virtual semifinal, with a potential India–Pakistan final on the cards for the first time in Asia Cup history.

If the two sides meet in the final, the controversy surrounding Rauf and Farhan will only add spice to what promises to be one of the most watched cricket matches of the year.

For now, the ball lies in the ICC’s court, and fans across the cricketing world are keenly awaiting whether disciplinary action will follow BCCI’s bold complaint.
