Bangladesh’s premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is yet to receive his salary for the final four months of 2024, despite being under a national contract.
While the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) recently announced an increase in player salaries and match fees, Shakib remains unpaid for September, October, November, and December.
BCB officials confirmed the delay, attributing it to his bank account being frozen.
🗣️ “It’s true that he (Shakib) is yet to receive his salary for four months, and that is largely due to the fact that his bank account got frozen,” a BCB official told Cricbuzz on Monday.

Shakib’s Due Payment and Central Contract Status
As per reports, Shakib is expected to receive BDT 48 Lakhs (USD 38,400) before taxes.
In February 2024, BCB had announced its central contract list, where Shakib was given an all-format contract alongside Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Shoriful Islam.
Despite his contract, Shakib was unable to play his final home Test against South Africa, after announcing his retirement from Test and T20I cricket during the Kanpur Test against India in September. The decision came amid security concerns following political unrest in Bangladesh.
Legal and Political Troubles Affecting Shakib’s Career
Shakib was accused in a murder case during Bangladesh’s Test series against India. However, BCB allowed him to continue playing as he was not proven guilty.
Initially, the board assured that he could return to play against South Africa, but later changed their stance, citing security concerns. This shift was partly influenced by the ICC Women’s World Cup being moved from Bangladesh to UAE.
Adding to his woes, on November 6, 2024, Shakib’s bank accounts were frozen, which has now led to the delay in his salary payments.
Meanwhile, despite announcing his retirement from Tests and T20Is, Shakib was eyeing a return for the Champions Trophy, but failed to make the squad due to a suspect bowling action.
BCB Assures Payment Will Be Made
BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedin confirmed that Shakib will receive his due salary as per the contract agreement.
🗣️ “He (Shakib) will get his salary as per the agreement because whether you play or not, there is an agreement in place, and certainly, we will try to fulfill our commitment,” Abedin told Cricbuzz.
While Shakib’s on-field contributions to Bangladesh cricket are undeniable, his off-field troubles continue to cast uncertainty over his future in the sport.
