Ankit Rajpoot Retires from Indian Cricket at 31

Uttar Pradesh fast bowler Ankit Rajpoot has announced his retirement from Indian cricket at the age of 31. Known for his ability to generate pace and bounce, Rajpoot made a mark in domestic cricket and the IPL but remained uncapped at the international level.

A Decade-Long Career

Rajpoot began his cricketing journey in the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season, debuting for Uttar Pradesh. Over his first-class career, he took 248 wickets, showcasing his skills with the red ball.

In the IPL, Rajpoot made his debut with Chennai Super Kings in 2013 and later played for franchises including Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals, and most recently, Lucknow Super Giants. Across 29 IPL games, he claimed 24 wickets, including a five-wicket haul for Kings XI Punjab.

Despite his potential, Rajpoot’s appearances in the IPL dwindled, with his last game in the tournament played in 2020. He went unsold in the recent IPL auction, signaling the end of his league career.

Statement from Ankit Rajpoot

Announcing his decision, Rajpoot expressed gratitude for the opportunities and support he received throughout his career:

“Today, with immense gratitude and humility, I announce my retirement from Indian cricket. My journey from 2009-2024 has been the most wonderful period of my life. I am grateful for the opportunities given to me by the BCCI, Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, Kanpur Cricket Association, and the IPL franchises I represented.”

The pacer also shared his excitement about exploring new horizons in cricket, hinting at a shift towards opportunities outside Indian cricket:

“I am excited to announce that I will be exploring new opportunities in the world of cricket and the business side of it. I will continue to participate in the sport that I love while challenging myself in a new and different environment.”

Legacy and the Road Ahead

While Rajpoot’s international aspirations remained unfulfilled, he leaves behind a commendable domestic legacy, especially in the Ranji Trophy. Known for his dedication and work ethic, his contributions were valued by teammates and coaches alike.

Rajpoot’s decision to explore opportunities beyond Indian cricket could pave the way for him to participate in overseas leagues or contribute to the sport in administrative or developmental roles.

As he embarks on this new chapter, the cricketing fraternity extends its best wishes to Ankit Rajpoot for success in his future endeavors.
