Australian wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy has expressed her reservations about hosting the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh.
Citing the ongoing political turmoil and student-led protests in the country, Healy believes that holding a major sporting event would divert resources from addressing the pressing needs of the people.
“As a human being, I feel it might be wrong to play there,” Healy said, referring to the situation in Bangladesh. “Organizing a T20 World Cup would take away resources from a country that is struggling.”
The ICC is now considering alternative options, with the UAE and Zimbabwe emerging as potential hosts. Healy has indicated that she is willing to respect whatever decision the ICC makes.
The controversy surrounding the T20 World Cup’s hosting adds another layer of complexity to the already challenging global cricket calendar.
Do you think the ICC should reconsider hosting the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh given the current situation?
