“Absolutely Unacceptable”: Abhishek Sharma Slams Airline Staff Over Travel Fiasco

India opener Abhishek Sharma found himself embroiled in a massive controversy after expressing his frustration with Indigo Airlines staff at Delhi Airport. The young cricketer, preparing for India’s T20I series against England, took to social media to detail what he called his “worst airline experience.”

Abhishek’s Social Media Outburst

Abhishek Sharma shared his ordeal on Instagram, naming Sushmita Mittal, a counter manager at the airline, as being responsible for the mishap. According to the Punjab batter, the airline staff unnecessarily redirected him between counters, resulting in a missed flight and a wasted one-day holiday.

“I had the worst experience with Indigo at Delhi airport, and the behaviour of staff, especially counter manager Ms Sushmita Mittal, was absolutely unacceptable. I arrived on time at the correct counter, but they redirected me unnecessarily to another counter, only to tell me later that check-in was closed, making me miss my flight.”

He further added:

“I only had a one-day holiday, which has now been completely ruined. To make it even worse, they are offering no further helpful assistance. This is by far the worst airline experience, and worst staff management I’ve ever had.”

Impact of the Incident

The timing of the controversy is significant, as Abhishek was looking forward to spending a rare day off with his family before rejoining the Indian squad for the upcoming T20I series against England. The first match of the series is set to take place in Kolkata on January 22.

Stellar Form in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Abhishek Sharma recently captained Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he showcased excellent form. He amassed 467 runs in eight matches, averaging 58.37 at a strike rate of 130.44, with one century and three fifties. Despite his strong performances, Punjab bowed out in the quarter-finals after losing to Maharashtra.

T20I Career and Expectations

Abhishek Sharma has been a part of India’s T20I setup since his debut against Zimbabwe. While the left-handed opener has shown glimpses of brilliance, including a belligerent hundred in his second T20I, consistency remains an area for improvement. In 12 T20Is, he has scored 256 runs at an average of 23.27 and an impressive strike rate of 171.81.

With the five-match T20I series against England approaching, Abhishek is expected to open alongside Sanju Samson, providing an aggressive option at the top of the order.

Looking Ahead

While the controversy with Indigo Airlines has been a setback for Abhishek Sharma, the young batter will aim to put the incident behind him and focus on delivering strong performances in the England series. Fans and experts will closely watch how the promising opener handles the pressure in the upcoming games.
