Trinbago Knight Riders Crowned CPL 2025 Champions After Beating Guyana Amazon Warriors in Final

It was a memorable night at Providence Stadium, Guyana, as Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) lifted their fifth Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title since 2020, cementing their dominance in the tournament’s modern era. The Men in Red defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors in the grand finale of CPL 2025 with a composed performance in what turned out to be a low-scoring thriller.
Guyana Falter With the Bat
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Guyana Amazon Warriors were off to a disastrous start. Quentin Sampson was removed on just the fourth ball of the innings, leaving the hosts under pressure. Ben McDermott tried to stabilize with a brief knock but was dismissed before the powerplay by Saurabh Netravalkar, who struck with consistency throughout his spell.
The middle order also failed to put together meaningful partnerships. While Iftikhar Ahmed (30 off 27) and Dwaine Pretorius (25 off 18) showed some resistance, Guyana’s inability to rotate strike and anchor the innings proved costly. Eventually, the Warriors folded for 130 runs in 20 overs, a total well below par on a good batting surface.
For Trinbago, Netravalkar was the standout performer, picking up 3 wickets at an economy of just 6.25. Akeal Hosein (2 wickets) and Andre Russell (1 wicket) provided valuable support, while Sunil Narine, despite going wicketless, kept the pressure on with tight lines.
Trinbago’s Chase Survives Scares
Chasing 131, TKR were rocked early by Dwaine Pretorius, who dismissed Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran inside the first five overs. When Darren Bravo departed in the 8th over, the scoreboard read 52/3, putting the chase in jeopardy.
But the experienced campaigners held their nerve. Alex Hales top-scored with 26 off 34, anchoring the innings, while Sunil Narine (22 off 17) and Kieron Pollard (21 off 12) provided timely cameos. With wickets falling at intervals, the finishing responsibility fell on Akeal Hosein and Keacy Carty, who guided the team calmly in the final overs.
Despite Imran Tahir’s brilliant 3/28 and Shamar Joseph’s double strike, Guyana couldn’t capitalize on the pressure moments. With 14 runs required from 18 balls, Hosein showcased nerves of steel, launching a huge six off Gudakesh Motie before sealing victory with a boundary.
Another Feather in Trinbago’s Cap
With this win, Trinbago Knight Riders secured their fifth CPL crown in just six years, further solidifying their legacy as the league’s most successful franchise. Their depth in batting, coupled with a world-class bowling unit, once again proved decisive on the big stage.
Skipper Kieron Pollard lauded his team’s fighting spirit, crediting both youngsters and senior players for stepping up in crunch moments. For Guyana, it was heartbreak once again, as their strong league-stage campaign ended in disappointment under the pressure of a final.
