N Srinivasan Returns as Chairman of CSKCL, Marking His Official Comeback to Cricket Administration

Former BCCI and ICC president N Srinivasan has officially made his comeback to cricket administration after years away from the spotlight. As per the company’s 2025 annual report released on Tuesday, Srinivasan has been named Chairman of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited (CSKCL), the holding company of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise.

This appointment marks a full-circle moment for Srinivasan, who was one of the most influential figures in Indian cricket during the late 2000s and early 2010s. Over 15 years after playing a pivotal role in CSK’s formation, he is once again at the helm of the franchise.

Leadership Reshuffle at CSKCL

In February 2025, Srinivasan and his daughter Rupa Gurunath became the first members of the CSKCL board. The annual report confirmed that he succeeded his cousin R. Srinivasan as Chairman in May, while Rupa was appointed a full-time director only last week.

This restructuring follows India Cements’ major corporate decision last year to sell its cement division to UltraTech Cement. The Chennai Super Kings franchise itself was originally established under India Cements ownership, further highlighting Srinivasan’s long-standing connection to the team.

The Rise, Fall, and Return of Srinivasan

Srinivasan was one of the most powerful administrators in world cricket when he took charge as BCCI president in 2011. However, his tenure was marred by the infamous 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal, which led to CSK’s two-year suspension and forced him to step down.

In 2014, Srinivasan became the first-ever chairman of the ICC, a role that further cemented his legacy. Yet, the 2015 conflict-of-interest ruling cut short his reign, pushing him away from the corridors of cricketing power.

Now, despite health concerns limiting his once-dominant influence, his return as CSKCL chairman is seen as a stabilizing factor. His deep-rooted ties with the franchise, coupled with his vast administrative experience, are expected to benefit CSK in the years to come.

The Future of CSKCL Under New Leadership

While Srinivasan may hold the top position, much of the day-to-day functioning of CSK will be overseen by Rupa Gurunath and KS Viswanathan, the MD and CEO of CSKCL. This indicates a gradual transition of power within the franchise, ensuring both continuity and modernization.

With the Chennai Super Kings being one of the most successful and popular IPL franchises, Srinivasan’s return has sparked fresh curiosity about the team’s long-term strategy, both on and off the field. For fans, it’s a reminder that the man who once shaped Indian cricket remains an influential figure in its biggest franchise.
