Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign ended in disappointment as the hosts suffered an early exit from the tournament. Under the leadership of Mohammad Rizwan, the Men in Green lost back-to-back matches against New Zealand and India, putting them on the verge of elimination. Their fate was sealed when New Zealand defeated Bangladesh, confirming India and the Kiwis as the two semi-finalists from Group A.
With this embarrassing exit, Pakistan became the first-ever host nation to be knocked out in the group stage of the Champions Trophy. The team’s poor performance has led to severe criticism from former players, fans, and cricket experts.

Yograj Singh Offers to Coach Pakistan Team
While several former Pakistani cricketers, including Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, have publicly criticized the team’s performance and called for structural changes, former Indian pacer Yograj Singh has offered to take charge and help Pakistan rebuild their team.
Yograj, known for his passionate and aggressive approach, slammed Wasim Akram and other ex-players for merely commenting on the downfall instead of actively working to improve Pakistan’s cricketing setup.
“Wasim is earning money doing commentary. Go back to your country and organize a camp for these players. I want to see which one of you can help Pakistan win the World Cup. And if you can’t, then resign!
Mein jata hoon, ek saal mein team khadi kar ke dikhaunga. Tum yaad rakhoge! (I will go there, build this team in a year, and you all will remember it).”
Speaking to News18, Yograj emphasized the importance of passion and commitment in coaching.
“It’s all about passion. I am spending 12 hours here at my academy. You have to give your blood and sweat for your country.”
Yograj Singh’s Coaching Credentials
Yograj Singh, the father of Indian cricket legend Yuvraj Singh, has been a highly respected coach at the grassroots level. Despite playing just one Test and six ODIs for India, he has developed several talented players, including Arjun Tendulkar, who scored a century on his Ranji Trophy debut.
His aggressive coaching style and tough training regimes have helped shape many young cricketers. Given Pakistan’s current struggles, his approach could bring much-needed discipline and intensity to the side.
Pakistan Cricket in Crisis
Pakistan’s poor show in the Champions Trophy has not only resulted in calls for major squad changes but has also raised serious questions about the country’s domestic cricket structure.
Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar even remarked that a ‘B’ Indian team could defeat Pakistan given their current form.
With growing concerns over Pakistan’s cricketing future, the idea of Yograj Singh stepping in to rebuild the team has sparked mixed reactions. Some believe his no-nonsense approach could be beneficial, while others feel Pakistan needs internal reforms before looking for external solutions.
Would Pakistan consider an Indian coach to rebuild their team? Only time will tell.
