Jay Shah Launches Organ Donation Awareness Initiative Ahead of Third ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium

With cricket serving as a powerful medium to inspire and bring people together, International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah has announced a new organ donation awareness initiative, “Donate Organs, Save Lives,” ahead of the third ODI between India and England in Ahmedabad on February 12.

This initiative, set to be conducted at the Narendra Modi Stadium, aims to spread awareness about organ donation and encourage individuals to pledge their organs to help save lives.

Cricket’s Role in Promoting Organ Donation

Organ donation remains a critical medical necessity in India, with thousands of patients in dire need of life-saving transplants. Despite medical advancements, awareness and willingness to donate organs posthumously remain low. Shah’s initiative seeks to bridge this gap by using cricket’s massive reach to educate and influence people toward making this life-saving commitment.

Taking to social media, Jay Shah expressed his vision for the campaign, stating:

“On the occasion of the 3rd ODI between India and England in Ahmedabad on February 12th, we are proud to launch an awareness initiative – ‘Donate Organs, Save Lives.’

Sport has the power to inspire, unite, and create lasting impact beyond the field. Through this initiative, we urge everyone to take a step towards giving the greatest gift of all – the gift of life. One pledge, one decision, can save multiple lives. Let’s come together and make a difference.”

The initiative is expected to include on-ground awareness drives, informational sessions, and possible pledges from players and fans during the highly anticipated match.

India Clinch ODI Series with Commanding Win Over England

Meanwhile, India secured the three-match ODI series after a thrilling four-wicket victory in the second ODI at Cuttack, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead over England.

Chasing 305, Rohit Sharma led from the front, smashing a magnificent 119 off 90 balls, which included 12 boundaries and seven sixes. His aggressive innings, supported by Shubman Gill (60) and Axar Patel (41)*, ensured India crossed the finish line with 33 balls to spare.

Earlier, England, after opting to bat first, posted 304, with Joe Root (69) and Ben Duckett (58) steering the innings. However, Ravindra Jadeja’s brilliant spell of 3/35 triggered a collapse, restricting England’s momentum in the final overs.

Despite an early setback with Virat Kohli managing just five runs on his return from injury, India remained in control throughout the chase, securing another dominant home series win.

With the Champions Trophy 2025 looming, India’s strong performances in this series signal a formidable build-up to the marquee tournament. Fans now eagerly await the third and final ODI in Ahmedabad, which will not only serve as a competitive decider but also shine a spotlight on the noble cause of organ donation.
