The Bombay High Court has directed the family court in Bandra to deliver a final decision on the divorce case of Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his wife, Dhanashree Verma, by March 20. The court has also waived the mandatory six-month cooling-off period required under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act.
This move comes in light of Chahal’s participation in IPL 2025, which will keep him occupied for the next two months. The court emphasized the need to expedite the proceedings, ensuring the case is resolved before the league begins.

Court Waives Cooling-Off Period for Chahal & Dhanashree’s Divorce
Justice Madhav Jamdar, a single-judge of the Bombay High Court, passed the directive stating:
🗣 “Since Petitioner 1 (Chahal) is a participant in IPL and may not be available from March 21, the learned judge of the family court is requested to decide the petition by tomorrow.”
The high court considered that Chahal and Dhanashree had been living separately for an extended period and had already agreed upon the consent terms regarding the alimony payment.
₹4.75 Crore Alimony Settlement for Dhanashree
The couple had filed for divorce on February 5, 2025, and initially sought a waiver of the cooling-off period, which the family court denied on February 20.
📌 Alimony Details:
- Chahal agreed to pay ₹4.75 crore as permanent alimony to Dhanashree.
- He has already paid ₹2.37 crore but was yet to complete the full payment.
- Due to the partial compliance, the family court rejected the plea, which led Chahal to approach the high court.
- The high court overturned the family court’s order and reinstated the divorce proceedings.
📜 The court ruling (as quoted by Bar & Bench):
🗣 “Thus, it is clear that there is no impediment in granting the applications. Accordingly, the impugned order dated 20th February is quashed and set aside.”
