History of Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium
The stadium was built in Dehradun as Uttarakhand’s first international-standard cricket facility. It is located in the Raipur area of the city and was developed as a major cricket infrastructure project for the state. The venue is named after former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The ground’s international history expanded in 2019 when Afghanistan and Ireland played a five-match ODI series, three T20Is and a one-off Test at the venue. The Test became particularly significant because Afghanistan recorded its first Test victory there, defeating Ireland by seven wickets.
The stadium has subsequently remained an important domestic venue. Uttarakhand’s first-class matches have been played there, while competitions such as the Vijay Hazare Trophy and regional T20 tournaments have also used the ground.
