For 2027, these are the second-, third- and fourth-placed teams from the World Cup Qualifier. The qualifier winner goes directly into the Group Stage.

Round 2 – Group Stage

The 12 teams already in the Group Stage are divided into two groups of six.

Each group plays a round-robin competition.

The top three teams from each group qualify for the Super 7 stage. The remaining seventh Super 7 place goes to the better fourth-placed team from the two groups.

Round 3 – Super 7

Seven teams play a single round-robin competition.

Each team plays six matches, creating 21 matches.

No points are carried forward from the Group Stage.

The top four teams qualify for the semi-finals.

Semi-finals

The Super 7 table determines the semi-final pairings:

  • 2nd vs 3rd

Final

The two semi-final winners meet in the final at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on 21 November 2027.

What to Expect

The 2027 Cricket World Cup will introduce a substantially different structure from the 2023 tournament. Instead of a single 10-team round-robin competition, the expanded 14-team event will use a Super Series, two-group stage and Super 7 phase before the semi-finals and final.

South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will jointly host the tournament, with matches spread across 12 venues. South Africa provides eight venues, Zimbabwe three and Namibia one.

Australia arrive as defending champions after their six-wicket victory over India in the 2023 final. India and Australia will meet immediately in the opening Group Stage match at Cape Town, while India and Pakistan are scheduled to face each other in Johannesburg on 10 October.

The qualification pathway also means that four teams will not be known until the 2027 World Cup Qualifier is completed. The qualifier winner will enter the Group Stage directly, while the other three teams will play the Super Series in Windhoek for the final Group Stage place.

Official World Cup squads and captains have not yet been announced, so player selections should be updated when the respective boards publish their tournament squads.
