Mumbai Court Fines Prithvi Shaw ₹100 for Skipping Response in Molestation Case Filed by Sapna Gill

Mumbai Court Fines Prithvi Shaw ₹100 for Skipping Response in Molestation Case Filed by Sapna Gill

In a dramatic turn of events, a Mumbai sessions court on Tuesday fined cricketer Prithvi Shaw ₹100 for failing to respond to a molestation allegation filed by social media influencer Sapna Gill. The symbolic fine came after Shaw repeatedly ignored the court’s orders to submit his response to Gill’s criminal revision petition.

Court’s Warning Ignored

The sessions court had earlier granted multiple extensions to Shaw, including a final warning in the last hearing. Yet, the young cricketer did not comply. On Tuesday, the judge remarked, “Still, one more chance is granted for a cost of ₹100,” and set the next hearing date for December 16, as reported by the Times of India.

Gill’s lawyer, Advocate Ali Kaashif Khan, criticized Shaw’s conduct in court, saying, “This has been his regular way of handling the case despite being summoned many times.”

Case Background

Sapna Gill filed a complaint against Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw

The controversy dates back to February 15, 2023, at a Mumbai pub in Andheri. According to police, Shaw had refused further selfies with Gill’s friend Shobit Thakur around 1 a.m., sparking a heated altercation.

When Shaw and his friend Ashish Surendra Yadav tried to leave the venue, matters escalated. Police reports state that:

  • Shaw managed to escape unharmed.
  • Thakur was allegedly attacked with a baseball bat.
  • Yadav was allegedly chased by six people, including Gill and Thakur, who demanded ₹50,000.

Following the incident, Sapna Gill was arrested on February 17, 2023, but released on bail three days later.

Gill’s Counter-Complaint

Gill, however, has maintained a completely different version. She claims she and Thakur were invited to Shaw’s VIP table and that Shaw, along with Yadav, attacked Thakur after the selfie request.

Gill further alleges that when she intervened, Shaw assaulted and molested her, accusing the cricketer of outraging her modesty. She filed a counter-complaint against Shaw.

Initially, the magistrate court ordered a police inquiry but did not file a formal FIR against Shaw. Dissatisfied, Gill moved the sessions court in April 2024, filing a criminal revision petition.

What’s Next?

Shaw has now been ordered to pay the ₹100 fine and submit his reply by December 16. The case will proceed only after his response is officially placed on record.

With both sides presenting contradictory narratives, the courtroom battle between a rising cricket star and a social media personality has captured nationwide attention.
