Uttarakhand HC Issues Notice to BCCI Over ₹12 Crore Cricket Fund Misuse Allegations

In a major development, the Uttarakhand High Court has issued a notice to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after petitions alleged large-scale misuse of government funds by the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU). The case, which involves nearly ₹12 crore, has sparked outrage, with claims that money meant for cricket development was instead misappropriated under dubious expenses.

Audit Report Raises Eyebrows

The controversy stems from the CAU’s own audit report for 2024–25, prepared by an external chartered accountant. The report flagged questionable expenses, including an astonishing ₹35 lakh under “expenditure on bananas for players.”

In addition, the audit highlighted:

  • ₹6.4 crore spent on event management
  • ₹26.3 crore shown as tournament & trial expenses, compared to ₹22.3 crore the previous year

These figures have raised serious questions about the transparency of CAU’s financial operations, especially when state-level players continue to complain about inadequate facilities, poor infrastructure, and lack of basic training amenities.

Petitioners Cry Foul

The petitions, filed by Dehradun resident Sanjay Rawat and others, allege that the association siphoned funds under the guise of food, events, and tournament costs. Despite crores being spent on paper, young cricketers in Uttarakhand reportedly saw no improvements in their facilities.

BCCI Asked to Respond

A single bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari heard the matter and issued a notice to BCCI, seeking its official response on the allegations. The next hearing has been scheduled for Friday, with cricket fans and stakeholders awaiting further developments.

This case has now put the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand under severe scrutiny, raising broader concerns about accountability and transparency in cricket administration across India.
