“I’m Like Jethalal From Taarak Mehta”: Prithvi Shaw Makes Hilarious Confession Amid Career Struggles

Once hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw’s career has taken a series of unexpected turns. Out of the national setup since July 2021 and unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, the 25-year-old has now made a quirky comparison that’s turning heads.
In a candid interview with Dainik Jagran, Shaw drew parallels between himself and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’s popular character, Jethalal. Known for constantly finding himself in tricky and often comical situations, Jethalal is one of Indian television’s most beloved personalities—and Shaw thinks he shares a few traits with him.
“Kafi samay se aisa kuch nahi hua hai, lekin ek baat mai kehna chahunga ki mujhe vivad pakad lete hai. Mai Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah ka Jethalal hu,” Shaw joked.
His lighthearted take on being regularly caught in controversies reveals a self-awareness and willingness to laugh at himself—a refreshing change amidst a tough period in his cricketing journey.
Leaving Mumbai Cricket Behind
Shaw’s struggles aren’t limited to the international scene. On June 23, he officially ended his long-standing association with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) after being granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC). The move paves the way for Shaw to join a new domestic team for the upcoming season.
In his request, Shaw emphasized the need for personal and professional growth:
“It has truly been an honor and a privilege to be part of the MCA setup, and I am deeply grateful for the exposure and experience I have gained here.”
Having debuted for Mumbai in 2017, Shaw’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in his domestic career.
A Career Once Full of Promise
Shaw’s cricket journey began on a dazzling note. In October 2018, he became the youngest Indian to score a century on Test debut. At that time, he was widely seen as the future of Indian cricket. However, injuries, off-field controversies, fitness issues, and inconsistency have seen him fall behind in the pecking order.
Despite a stint in Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy-winning campaign, Shaw’s performance—197 runs in 9 matches—wasn’t enough to revive his fortunes. His exclusion from both the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Ranji Trophy in the 2024–25 season further underlined his downward spiral.
What’s Next for Prithvi Shaw?
Although Shaw remains on the sidelines, his passion for cricket hasn’t dimmed. In recent interviews, he’s stated his strong desire to return to the Indian team and even expressed dreams of lifting the World Cup for India someday. His move to a new domestic side could be the reset he needs.
And while comparing himself to Jethalal might have amused fans, it’s clear Shaw is still hopeful of scripting a redemption story—this time, with more runs and fewer “vivads.”
