IPL Orange Cap Race Heats Up – Who Will Win It?

IPL Orange Cap Race Heats Up – Who Will Win It?

Indian Premier League deservedly carries the mantle of the world’s most popular cricket league. It gathers some of the best players on the globe, and it shows. This year’s race for the playoffs is more interesting than some of the previous tears have been. Yet, it is left in the shadow of the race for the Orange Cap.

As far as the team performances go, the current league leaders are Gujarat Titans with eight wins and three losses from eleven matches. While Titans weren’t firm favourites early on, they’ve proved themselves week in, week out, and deservedly lead the league. Yet, their first followers the Royal Challengers Bengaluru are close by and have the same number of wins and losses, but trial based on stats.

The biggest surprise of the year are definitely the Punjab Kings, who currently reside in the position No3, and have one hand on the playoffs. Tough few days are ahead of them as they try to stave off their main playoff opponents in Delhi Capitals, and the inevitable Mumbai Indians. As usually, Indians should never be underestimated, and with them currently ranked fourth, this is as good a moment as any, while odds underestimate them too, to bet on the Indians to win it all at https://www.10crics.com/cricket/

As we said, the chance for a playoff spot is as good as ever, if not better, but what’s even more interesting is the competition we’re witnessing in the race for the Orange Cap. The most prestigious individual award in the Indian Premier League has plenty of suitors this season. The best part is that we’ve almost had a different leader each round, as they’re so close to each other. Below, you will find out late season favorites to win the Orange Cap.

Virat Kohli

Mister consistency is our favourite once again. Kohli has proven over and over that he can deliver when it’s needed, and while not currently leading the race, he is right up there with the best.  After eleven matches and eleven innings to his name, Virat has 505 runs, with an average of 63.12, and  143.46 batting strike rate. All of this makes him a favourite in our eyes. Also, his 44 fours, and 18 sixes should not be neglected. Additional motive for Virat Kohli is going to be the fact that he has to win the IPL so far in his illustrious career, and this year’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru are in a pole position to do it. Pairing yet another orange Cap with the IPL title would be the cherry on the cake of Kohli’s career.

Suryakumar Yadav

When the season started, the Mumbai Indians weren’t as dominant as we were used to. After four defeats in the first five matches, they hit the gas pedal, and on the back of Suryakumar Yadav amazing form they’ve won six of the following seven duels. This type of form makes the Indians favorites for the IPL title, and their batter one for the Orange Cap. Yadav has 510 runs in 12 matches and 12 innings, with an average of 63.75, and a batting strike rate of 170.56. all of this was enough for 51 fours, and 26 sixes. Suryakumar Yadav currently leads the race for the Orange Cap but he also has a game in hand compared to Virat Kohli. This is the main reason why we have him in second position, as we think that with a few more innings to his name, Kohli will overtake Suryakumar Yadav as the season ends.

Shubman Gill

Gujarat Titans are league leaders, and they’ve deservedly first after eleven rounds. It was all done on the back of their amazing duo of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. These two lads have been amazing throughout the year and have rather similar stats. Yet, in our opinion, the third favourite for the Orange Cap is Shubman Gill. He’s currently trailing his teammate in a few statistics categories. Nonetheless, we have him above Sudharsan. Gill did amazingly with a 50.80 average on 508 runs. His batting strike rate stands at 152.55, which was enough for 51 fours, and 16 sixes. The talks that Gill is the leading favourite to become the Indian test captain, will only add fuel to his engine, and we can see him even winning over Virat Kohli and  Suryakumar Yadav.

Players such as Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler, Prabhsimran Singh, and Yashasvi Jaiswal have also had fine years during the 2025 Indian Premier League season. Considering that we only have a few more matches to go, it is hard to envision them overtaking either of the three men we’ve singled out. At the end of the day, Kohli, Gill, and Yadav were among the top five favorites for this award even before the season started.
