Delhi Capitals bowling coach Munaf Patel has been fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during DC’s high-octane clash against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.
According to the official statement released by the IPL, Munaf admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20, which relates to conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game. The former India pacer accepted the sanction imposed by the Match Referee.
“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement added.

What Happened?
While the exact nature of the incident was not disclosed, sources close to the matter suggest that Munaf Patel’s animated behavior and overzealous celebrations following a controversial umpiring decision may have led to the penalty. His reaction reportedly breached the code relating to respect for the game’s spirit and decorum.
DC Bowlers Impress Despite the Drama
Despite the off-field controversy, Munaf Patel will find solace in the performance of his bowlers, who delivered under pressure in a thrilling encounter that ended in a tie before DC clinched victory in the Super Over.
Delhi Capitals successfully defended their total by restricting Rajasthan Royals to the same score, forcing the game into a Super Over — one of the rarest and most exciting outcomes in T20 cricket.
Mitchell Starc Shines in Super Over
Australian speedster Mitchell Starc was the hero of the night. He bowled a clinical Super Over, conceding just 11 runs with pinpoint yorkers and calm under pressure. His over set the stage for DC batters to chase down the target with one ball to spare, sealing a memorable win for the home side.
Starc was deservedly awarded the Player of the Match for his nerveless performance, despite taking only one wicket in the regular innings.
“Just backed my execution. Run in with a clear plan and try to execute it. Sometimes it doesn’t come off — today it did,” said Starc in the post-match presentation.
He further praised the team’s blend of experience and youth:
“It’s a good mix — Axar is leading nicely. Faf, KL, and Stubbs have all been around. Kuldeep’s been fantastic. Success like tonight helps the group,” he added.
DC Still in the Hunt
With this victory, Delhi Capitals have not only secured crucial points but also gained significant momentum heading into the latter half of the tournament. Axar Patel’s tactical captaincy and Starc’s calmness under fire were key takeaways from the win.
The team will hope that Munaf’s penalty serves as a moment of reflection and not a distraction as they look to maintain discipline and continue their push for playoff contention.
