‘Pakistan Cricket Is in ICU…’ – Shahid Afridi Slams PCB After Winless Champions Trophy

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following the team’s disastrous winless campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Under Mohammad Rizwan’s leadership, the Men in Green suffered humiliating defeats against New Zealand and India, while their match against Bangladesh was washed out due to rain.

With just one point from three games, Pakistan finished at the bottom of Group A, raising serious concerns about the team’s future.

Afridi Blames PCB for Pakistan’s Downfall

Shahid Afridi didn’t hold back in his criticism, comparing the state of Pakistan cricket to a critically ill patient in the ICU. He believes Pakistan’s decline is a direct result of PCB’s poor decision-making and lack of long-term planning.

Afridi’s Explosive Remarks on PCB

“All the time we talk about preparations, and when an event comes and we flop, then we talk about surgery. Fact is, Pakistan cricket is in ICU because of incorrect decisions,” Afridi said.

“There is no continuity, no consistency in the board’s decisions and policies. We keep changing captains, coaches, and players, but in the end, who is holding PCB officials accountable?”

Afridi also slammed the blame game within the team and management, stating:

“It is sad to see coaches blaming players to save their jobs and management blaming both to save their positions. How can Pakistan cricket progress when there is a constant sword hanging over the captain and coach’s head?”

Pakistan’s Upcoming Tour of New Zealand

While the Champions Trophy debacle has left fans frustrated, Pakistan will now shift focus to their upcoming tour of New Zealand. The team, missing several senior players, will play five T20Is and three ODIs, starting with the first match at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on March 16.
