Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has hit back at Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar for his recent remarks on Pakistan’s performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Gavaskar, while analyzing Pakistan’s disappointing campaign, claimed that the current squad isn’t strong enough to even challenge India’s second-string team.
“I think even India’s B team would give Pakistan a tough challenge. It would be very hard for Pakistan’s current team to beat them,” Gavaskar said.
He also criticized Pakistan’s batting approach, highlighting their lack of intent against India’s spinners.
“Mohammad Rizwan hit a four off the first ball, and I thought we were in for something different. But soon, the batters started blocking instead of rotating the strike. The Indian spinners bowled quickly, and there was no urgency from Pakistan’s batters,” he added.

“Pakistan Hasn’t Built Bench Strength” – Gavaskar
The former India opener also questioned Pakistan’s lack of depth, stating that the team has struggled to develop batters of the same caliber as Inzamam-ul-Haq.
“Pakistan has talented players, but they haven’t built a strong backup. Despite the PSL being a major domestic tournament, it hasn’t produced enough world-class batters,” Gavaskar remarked.
Inzamam Responds: “Be Careful With Your Words”
Gavaskar’s comments didn’t sit well with Inzamam-ul-Haq, who issued a strong response in a “slightly harsh tone.”
“Gavaskar sahab should look at the stats. He is a senior and we respect him, but when talking about another country’s team, one must be careful.”
The former Pakistan captain acknowledged India’s strong performance but warned Gavaskar against undermining Pakistan’s team.
“Your team has played well. You have every right to praise them. But it’s not right to make such remarks about another team. Please be careful with your words. I am saying this in a slightly harsh tone.”
