Yograj Singh-Kapil Dev

“I Took My Pistol And…” – Yograj Singh’s Shocking Revelation About Kapil Dev

In a startling revelation, former Indian cricketer and Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh, shared a chilling incident where he once contemplated taking the life of 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev. Yograj’s explosive statements, made during an interview on the YouTube show Unfiltered By Samdish, have left cricket fans stunned as he opened up about his frustration and anger during his playing days.

The Incident That Nearly Escalated

Yograj Singh revealed that his animosity toward Kapil Dev stemmed from being dropped from the Indian cricket squad. The tension reached its peak when Yograj decided to confront Kapil with a loaded pistol.

“When Kapil Dev became the captain of India, North Zone, and Haryana, he dropped me without any reason,” Yograj stated. “My wife suggested I confront him, and I decided I would teach this bloody man a lesson. I took my pistol and went to Kapil’s house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I abused him a dozen times and told him, ‘Because of you, I’ve lost a friend. You’ll pay for this.’”

Yograj admitted that he had the intent to pull the trigger but refrained, citing respect for Kapil’s mother. “I said, ‘I want to put a bullet through your head, but I won’t because you have a very pious mother standing here.’ That’s when I decided I wouldn’t play cricket anymore, but my son Yuvraj would.”

Allegations of a Conspiracy

Yograj also accused Kapil Dev and the late Bishan Singh Bedi of plotting to oust him from the Indian team. According to Yograj, Bishan Singh Bedi, the then-chief selector, deliberately kept him out of the squad due to his close ties with Sunil Gavaskar.

“These people, including Bishan Singh Bedi, schemed against me. I could never forgive Bedi. The man passed away on his bed,” Yograj remarked.

He further claimed that Ravindra Chadha, a former teammate, revealed how Bedi and Kapil worked together to sideline him from the Indian cricket setup.

A Strained Relationship with Kapil Dev

Yograj mentioned that he maintained silence about Kapil Dev for years but broke it after India’s 2011 World Cup win. “When India won the World Cup in 2011, there was only one person crying, and that was Kapil Dev. I sent him a cutting from the paper, saying my son did better than him in the World Cup,” he said, referring to Yuvraj Singh’s phenomenal performance during the tournament.

Yograj’s Short Cricket Career

Yograj Singh’s cricketing career was brief but noteworthy. Making his international debut on December 21, 1980, under the captaincy of Sunil Gavaskar, Yograj played one Test and six ODIs. His sole Test match was against New Zealand, where he took one wicket. Over seven first-class matches during the 1980-81 tour of Australia and New Zealand, Yograj secured 13 wickets.

Controversial Remarks on MS Dhoni

During the same interview, Yograj also made surprising comments about MS Dhoni, indicating a shift in his perspective toward the former Indian skipper. Known for his outspoken nature, Yograj’s remarks on cricketing legends have frequently made headlines.
