After the announcement of the Women’s IPL by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) a few months ago, a big step has been taken regarding women’s cricket in India. The debate and discussion to start a full-fledged women’s IPL have been going on for a very long time, which has now reached its end. Now the first season of Women’s IPL will run from March 4 to March 26.

The Women’s Premier League auction will take place on February 13, 2023, in Mumbai. Five teams participated in the auction process, for which 409 players from across the world had registered. In its first season, WIPL will feature a total of 20 league matches and 2 playoff matches, which will be played over the course of 23 days. The league will begin on March 4 with the opening match between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium.

A total of 87 players were sold in the Women’s Premier League auction and five franchises collectively spent Rs 59.50 crore on these players. 30 foreign players were also sold in this auction, in which the players of the Associate Member of ICC were also included.
