A Humble Beginning
Rovman Powell’s life journey began in the Bannister area of Old Harbour Bay, Jamaica. Raised by his mother Joan Plumar, alongside his younger sister, he faced the challenges of life head-on. His father had abandoned his family before Rovman’s birth, leaving them in a state of relative poverty.
Despite the hardships, Powell’s determination and love for cricket shone brightly. He attended Old Harbour High School and even worked as a goat-herder for a period. In the semi-final against Trinidad and Tobago, he played a stunning innings, scoring 95 runs from 45 balls, which included 9 sixes and 6 fours. His all-round performance, which also included taking 5 wickets for 36 runs, earned him the man-of-the-match award.
